I am very passionate about birth. I believe in the natural process of birth and I am amazed at how well our bodies are made. I believe that any woman can give birth to her baby naturally, in comfort, without the need for drugs with the proper education and training. I believe that a Doula plays a key role in the comfort and well being of both mom and dad during labor and birth.
Recognizes birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life...
Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor...
Assists the woman and her partner in preparing for and carrying out their plans for the birth...
Stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the entire labor...
Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint and assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make good decisions...
Facillitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and clinical care providers...
Perceives her role as one who nurtures and protects the woman's memory of her birth experience.

Doula Services ....
*At least 2-3 prenatal visits which includes helping you write a birth plan, discussion on comfort measures, labor accessories and tools needed, (birth ball, hot or cold packs, massage, pillows, music, etc.), nutrition, exercise, relaxation, and any other needs or desires that you may wish to discuss.
*Unlimited phone contact.
*Attendance at your labor and birth wherever that may be.
*Still photos and digital video taken if desired by mom and dad. I do not charge extra for this service because I can't guarantee that I will be able to have my hands free to take pictures and video! :) But, when it is possible, I take pictures documenting the whole birth process. Different laboring positions, memorable moments, etc. I then put all of the pictures in a keepsake photo album and give you a hard copy of the pictures on a disk at our postpartum visit.
Video of the birth is something I really love to do! I think it is so important for moms to preserve their birth memory and video is a great way to do it! Since doula work is a very hands on job, I am not guaranteeing the best video...but what I get is usually pretty darn good! I give you a copy of the video on DVD at our postpartum visit.
Clark Memorial and Ireland Army hospital are the only hospitals that I know that will let you take video or pictures of the ACTUAL birth. Please check with your caregiver and hospital to make sure.
*I also write my version of your birth story as a keepsake and give it to you at our postpartum visit.
*At least one postpartum visit to make sure everything is going well (breastfeeding, bonding, etc.). We will go over general baby care and instruction on how to use a baby sling (if desired).
